Fall Fashion: Thanksgiving Outfits #2 + #3

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I’m so excited to see my family and eat some delicious food. In preparation for the holiday, I wanted to share two more last minute outfit ideas with you. Hope you all feel inspired!

Thanksgiving Outfit Inspiration #2: Fringe Top

Like I said in my last post, I try to wear flowy and comfortable clothes for holiday dinners. Aren’t holidays all about being comfortable and happy? But that doesn’t mean style gets thrown completely out the window.

Tops with fringe on them are bohemian-chic, and usually very flowy. Even with an empire waist, like this one from Pink Ice, there is still plenty of room for food beneath that top. The knit and fringe details add visual appeal to your outfit. I would pair this shirt with a pair of basic black leggings, both for contrast and for the stretchy waistband. Throw on a pair of over the knee boots on top for a bit of polish and edge. I love a cognac-colored boot with a lace back detail to play off the more natural color of the knit top. I would also add a scarf and purse with similar blue hues to add a pop of color and detail to an otherwise bland outfit.

Thanksgiving Outfit Inspiration #2: Sweater Dress

One last option I’d like to share with you all is a sweater dress. They’re cozy and comfy, and something with a fit and flare silhouette is perfect for Thanksgiving. To keep your outfit from being just another dress look, add a collared shirt. This adds some polish and interest to the ensemble. For something with short sleeves, use a collared tank top. If your dress has longer sleeves, use a long sleeve collared shirt and roll up the cuffs. To keep this look fun, but still comfortable, finish off the outfit with a pair of chunky heels, a metallic cuff bracelet, and a quirky purse.

#OOTD July 17, 2015 + From Sleep Style to Street Style: How to Glam Up a T-Shirt

Hey everyone, hope you’re having a great weekend!! During the summer, I tend to get very lazy as far as fashion and makeup go, but I’ve noticed that I feel less confident when I’m dressed in leggings and a T-shirt with no makeup on. So I set out to make sure that I can still look glam despite the fact that I’m just wearing a T-shirt, and lo and behold, I rocked it the other night for a night in with my girls! Who says you have to wear sweatpants for a night in?! Here’s my outfit of the day, and stay tuned for some of my tips on how to amp up your tee!!

#OOTD

Take Your Tee From Drab to Glam

Here’s some celeb and street style inspiration before I give my tips:

Pairing a plain T-shirt with a pair of brightly colored trousers adds interest and creates a feminine shape, picture via trendipia.com

Pairing a plain tee with an eye-catching pattern like cheetah prints and trendy accessories takes your outfit from sleep style to street style, picture via stylecarrot.com
  1. Go monochromatic (or close to it): Wearing all black or all white can look super chic and effortlessly cool. It’s simple and minimalistic, which is totally trendy and urban. If you’re feeling daring, by all means, pick another, brighter color, but I think that black and white are the most sophisticated and stylish colors to go all out on.
  2. Make it a look: By adding makeup and accessories, you can take a tee from sleep style to street style. But, it also depends on the occasion. If you’re getting ready for a night in with friends, like I did, let your makeup do the talking and keep your accessories minimal and casual. If you’re prepping for a date or party, be a little more adventurous with your accessories, trading in flats for heels, a huge bag for an adorable clutch, and bohemian string bracelets for some glam cuffs or earrings. But always remember to let only one part of your face take center stage with makeup to avoid looking like a clown!!
  3. Create a silhouette: Keep your T-shirt from looking boring by tucking it into a pair of pants or a skirt. This will give your body shape and keep your tee from looking like it should be worn with leggings.
  4. Knot or tie it: Add a playful and chic look to your favorite tee by knotting or tying it in the front to create a shorter shirt over a pair of high-waisted jeans or a skirt! You can even throw it over your fave dress to instantly create a skirt!!
  5. Layer it: Who says you have let the tee stay as is? Throw it over a button down shirt to create a preppy collared look, or wear it under a vest for an edgier look. Pair it with a blazer to make it look more professional and sophisticated!!

Now I’d like your feedback! I hope this post gave to a little bit of a peek into my life and gave you some ideas about how you can rock a tee! What did you think of my outfit and my tips? Back to School: Look #3: Knit Top

With Back to School time so close, I thought it was time about time I pull my knits out of their hiding spot… And then my creative juices started flowing. So I came up with this outfit to combine my summer faves and autumn essentials. Hope you all like it!

Knit Top

Knits are so comfortable it’s almost impossible not to love them. But in a cool color and a sparkly fabric, they become effortlessly chic and cool. And then, when you add super cool hardware like zippers or chains, you’ve definitely got a winner. One of my favorite knit tops is a charcoal cap-sleeved number with zippers on the shoulders. It’s edgy and cool but also snuggly, like a knit should be. I also like sweaters with a catchy phrase or cool image on it. The one that I found at Forever 21, which is also studded on the shoulders, says “Keep calm,” which is really in right now. The sweater stays chic with a black and white color palette. To keep from getting too hot, roll up your sleeves and show off a stack of bracelets.

High-Waisted Shorts

My sweater is almost totally shapeless, so I decided to pair it with a pair of high waisted jean shorts. When you tuck the sweater into the shorts, it gives you an hour glass figure. I always balloon my sweater out so it doesn’t pool up inside of my shorts. I like my shorts to be either medium or dark washed and cuffed at the bottom, but destroyed denim shorts really fit this outfit. It keeps the ensemble edgy and grungy, in a good way. Make sure they’re not too short when you’re at school- you don’t want to be called out for too-short shorts as soon as you get back from vaca!

Shoes

Many people aren’t fans of the shorts and boots combo, but I like it if it’s done right. I think this outfit looks good with mid-calf, studded combat boots. They add some glitz to your outfit, but they’re also tough, so they provide some edge. I love when they’re worn out- I think it makes it look like you’re not trying too hard. My combat boots are so worn out that my laces are torn apart to show orange threads- all because I stepped on them a few times! If you’re not for that kind of look, stick to classic Converse (Chuck Taylor high or low tops) or a pair of all black Vans.

Accessories

I think this outfit just calls for a long necklace. I usually stick to my big, Gothic-style, studded cross, but for those of you who aren’t feeling the cross, stick with something solid and edgy. That translates to: no butterflies, no flowers, etc. Something like a thin, rhinestoned cross or a fashionable silver scissor charm is good. Don’t forget a nice statement ring, a cool watch and a stack of bracelets on your arms. A wing ring is cute and doesn’t demand too much attention, which means it won’t distract from your ultra-cool ensemble. A watch with a fake leather wrap-around band and silver studs helps to play up the edginess of the outfit, and looks even cuter when added to a stack of black and silver edgy bracelets and colorful handmade friendship bracelets.
